In order for our favorite hobby to grow healthily, we must be aware of caring for the environment. Without good BB balls we can already play with the best airsoft replica, which will not obtain the desired shooting efficiency.
What should we care about airsoft ammunition? Make it biodegradable.
In the first place, and looking for the good health of our sport, we must take care of the environment in which we develop our games and events. It has rained a lot since the options to purchase ammunition were limited and today we find biodegradable ammunition for airsoft in stores easily.
Traditional balls are made of plastic materials polluting by petroleum derivatives and take years to disappear from the field of play, with the risk of emitting toxic particles. Few players realize that these materials can be accidentally ingested by local fauna, harming birds and other animals. These balls are usually made of PVC, or polluting plastics.
The bio or biodegradable balls are made with bioplastics, produced from a starch and / or glucose base. They decompose quickly in contact with the forest environment, and using them we eliminate the risk of contaminating the rural environment.
To obviate the fact that abandoning the fired ammunition in a forest terrain, besides being irresponsible, promises to make it difficult for us to practice in the not too distant future.

What makes an airsoft ball good?
Its use must not harm the environment.
On forest playing fields, we will always use BIO balls.
All BBs in the same bag must have the same physical properties.
When we find bags in which the balls vary in a certain weight or size, we will lose shooting precision.
They must be perfectly spherical, without imperfections, mold joints, or deformities.
Any imperfections in the surface of the airsoft ammunition will cause jams in the barrel, wandering flight and basically loss of effectiveness, grouping, and precision.
Its construction must be solid, without blemishes or air bubbles inside.
When we find empty spaces or bubbles inside the ball, it is altered in its properties. You can vary your weight or center of gravity and therefore, in your spin from the Hop Up, your flight will be altered.
BBs must be the ideal size.
6mm balls do not measure 6mm. Most manufacturers produce balls from 5,94 to 5,95mm. In the same way, that with its weight, we have to thank that the size difference does not vary. The maximum acceptable tolerance is around 0,01mm.
They must have the appropriate weight for the role that the player is going to play.
Using the wrong weight can reduce the reach of the ball, producing a dangerous Joule Creep effect, or cause a turbulence effect that will make the destination of the shot unpredictable.
We provide some recommendations for guidance:
0.20-0.25 gr. for pistol or secondary.
0.20-0.28 gr. for riflemen
0.25-0.28 gr. for supports
0.30-0.45 gr. DMR and sniper (0,45gr is the legal limit in Spain)
BBs must be lubricated at source
The best airsoft balls like Tokio Marui come lubricated with a light oily coating. As in other areas, a good manufacturer is required with all the necessary means to produce a good economic airsoft ball.
Are biodegradable airsoft balls maintained?
Yes. Contrary to traditional ammunition unalterable for years, BB Bio are more delicate.
We must take into account that factors such as light and humidity affect them more, and before we can see their physical properties altered. If they remain exposed to the environment for a long time, we will see changes in color, shape and even increase in size, which may cause jams; in weeks or months.
We give you some tips on how to manage your reserve of ecological balls for airsoft:
Make sure you close the bag tightly between games.
You can put a silica bag in the ball bag.
You can take a sufficient amount to the field and keep a larger reserve protected at home.
